The StUB for Nuremberg

With more than 540,000 inhabitants, Nuremberg is the second largest city in the Free State of Bavaria. In addition to the historic old town, which is a popular tourist destination, Nuremberg is a high-tech, industrial and innovative service location. A dense public transportation network of buses, trams and the subway ensures fast, handicapped-accessible and environmentally friendly mobility. This needs to be expanded further. For example, the north of Nuremberg is to be connected to the tram system with the Stadt-Umland-Bahn.

How will the people of Nuremberg benefit from the StUB?

  • The StUB will expand Nuremberg's tram network and create comfortable and fast connections between the northern parts of the city in the Knoblauchsland and the city centers of Nuremberg and Erlangen.
  • With the StUB, university locations of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg will be connected with each other and the science axis Erlangen – Nuremberg will be strengthened.
  • The Stadt-Umland-Bahn will be an attractive connection for employees who commute between the three cities, with 10-minute intervals – the StUB will run even more frequently during peak traffic times.
  • As a sustainable means of transportation, the StUB can run on 100% green electricity and thereby make an important contribution to achieving local climate goals.
